YOUNG DUBLINERS BIO 2013

The Young Dubliners are quite possibly Celtic rock's hardest working band, playing hundreds of shows to thousands of fans across the US and Europe every year. In recent years they have twice appeared on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, had songs featured in TV shows (Sons Of Anarchy, Human Target) and toured extensively as a headliner and as the opener for such a diverse list of artists as The Flaming Lips, Collective Soul, Jethro Tull, Johnny Lang and many more.

Although the Young Dubliners sound is most commonly called 'Celtic Rock', that label, as labels often can be, is misleading. The Irish influence is there, certainly, but it's not the only influence that rears its head on their albums, or in live shows. After all, several of the band members have no Irish roots of any kind. "That was always the idea", Keith Roberts, lead singer for the band explains. "The sound was always intended to be a hybrid because we all come from different backgrounds. Even though two of us are from Ireland, a lot of the music we listened to growing up wasn't Irish at all, but when we got here, we got homesick and developed a new appreciation for Irish Music. In truth the Celtic riffs can just as easily come from the American band members. Everyone writes now so you never know what you'll end up with when you start on a new album.

The band is currently in the midst of recording their ninth studio album. This will be a unique experience for the band as they plan to release it independently for the first time in their career.

"We had a few offers but decided we were well overdue to take things into our own hands," says Roberts, "After eight albums on various labels it just seemed right to go it alone for once and maintain full creative control."

However 'going it alone' did not mean without financial support and for that they turned to their fans. After only two weeks the band had received over half the necessary funds to complete the recording, manufacturing and marketing plan for the album and work began on February 1st, 2012. The road intervened as is usual for this non-stop touring band and the recording process was put on temporary hold as they commenced a long US summer tour followed by a month long European Fall run.

Spring 2012

The Young Dubliners will be back on tour this spring. They are currently in the midst of recording their ninth album, which they plan to release independently for the first time in their career. "We had a few offers but decided we were well overdue to take things into our own hands" says Keith Roberts, lead singer for the band. "After eight albums on various labels its just seemed right to go it alone for once and maintain full creative control".

However "going it alone" did not mean without financial support and for that they turned to their fans. After only two weeks the band had raised over half the necessary funds to complete the recording, manufacturing and marketing plan for the album and began work on Feb 1st. The drive continues on their website at youngdubliners.com.

Despite a release date tentatively set for late summer 2012 the Dubs plans to release a single in time for St Patricks' day and in support of the Spring tour.

The first single, WE THE MIGHTY, will be given to all the fans that have contributed financially to the making of the new album during the bands pledge drive. It will also be sent to radio stations that have supported the band in the past so they have it to play over the St Paddy's madness month.

After the tour they will head back into the studio to complete the recording.

WORK ON NEW ALBUM BEGINS. SHORT TOUR IN DECEMBER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nov/Dec 2011

Although the Young Dubliners are deep into writing and recording their ninth studio album they have allowed themselves a brief break in the process to play a few gigs in December. November has been set aside to concentrate on the new recording, which is not easy for a band that spends most of its life on the road. "we just find it very hard to write when we are constantly moving so every few years we have to lock ourselves away and focus exclusively on writing new material" says Keith Roberts, frontman for the group. "what made it fun and refreshing is when we realized how many song ideas we had, now we are all excited to get these songs done and out there".

The song writing process has become more and more collaborative for the band with each album. "Knowing each others strengths from playing and writing together for so long has played a big part in allowing each song to develop more quickly". Its one of the unusual cases where "too many chefs actually improves the broth!"

The few December dates allow the band to air out some of the new material but also to remind them what is most important to them, playing to an audience. "at the end of the day its all about performing for us. When you play over 150 shows a year its hard to suddenly stop for too long of a time. Hitting some of our favorite haunts will keep the blood flowing and give us some useful feedback on the new material".

THREE SHOWS TO CLOSE OUT THE YEAR.
December 28 Grand Junction CO Mesa Theatre
December 30 Carbondale CO PAC 3
December 31 Evergreen CO The Little Bear

YOUNG DUBLINERS RECORD RAUCOUS ODE TO THE ROAD ON NEW 429 RECORDS RELEASE "SAINTS AND SINNERS"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Irish-American rockers the Young Dubliners are excited about the release of "SAINTS AND SINNERS" an all new collection of lively recordings inspired by their tireless love of the road and the trials and tribulations that the group has encountered over the years. Playing an average of 180-250 shows internationally a year, the band members have seen their share of joy and pain and they share both their personal experiences and external observations on the new recording. Borrowing from an Irish proverb, the band's journeys have been filled with "poets and patriots, saints and sinners". Filled with free-wheeling party anthems to politically charged songs to poignant, harmony-laden jams, "SAINTS AND SINNERS" finds the Dubliners seamlessly blending their trademark rock and Celtic influences and offering up a vibrant collection of songs bursting with wit and wisdom. Produced by Ken Sluiter and Tim Boland, SAINTS AND SINNERS features co-founder Keith Roberts (vocals, guitar),fellow Dubliner Brendan Holmes (bass, vocals), American-born members Bob Boulding (guitar, vocals), Chas Waltz (violin, keyboards, harp, mandolin, vocals) and Dave Ingraham (drums, percussion). Uillean pipe and pennywhistler master Eric Rigler makes a special appearance as does Blues rock great Kenny Wayne Shepard who lends his talents to the explosive instrumental "Saoirse". Their second album for 429 Records (their first being 2007's much-lauded "With All Due Respect, The Irish Sessions" a tribute to masters of Irish writing past and present) "SAINTS AND SINNERS" is in stores February 3rd. 2009

The Young Dubliners consider themselves to be ambassadors of Celtic and American rock. The band members' dual Irish and American heritage has always resulted in a distinctive and richly varied musical palette. The instrumental "Saiorse" featuring Kenny Wayne Shepard is a prime example of how the Dubs maintain a dual identity as both Irish and American songwriters. Says Roberts, "The title means 'freedom' in Gaelic and to us that means we have the liberty to take this style of music and push and pull it in every direction. The vibe of the song goes from Irish to rock back to Irish with Kenny's wild blues on top of it. We've always defied pigeonholing because our sound is the grooving result of Irish and American guys coming together and drawing from a little bit of everything."

Not surprisingly, the Young Dubliners will hit the road again beginning in late February for an extensive tour of North America.

YOUNG DUBLINERS SIGN WITH 429 RECORDS:
WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, THE IRISH SESSIONS IN STORES FEBRUARY 13

Long-Awaited Homage to the Great Songwriters of Ireland

For Immediate Release: Santa Monica, CA:

Fans have been waiting long and impatiently for the Young Dubliners take on the great songs born of Ireland and finally, they will be rewarded by 429 Records release of WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, THE IRISH SESSIONS. Keith Roberts and his raucous band of Irish transplants and local Los Angeles musicians locked themselves away in the studio for seventeen days at the end of 2006 to focus on creating a definitive shout out to the masters of Irish song past and present. Roberts refers to the song selection as the best of the best representing poets, playwrights and vagabonds, Indeed, centuries old traditional melodies shimmer bookended by distinctive romps through the songcraft of Shane McGowan which brush up against the wistfully sad lyrics of Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh. WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, THE IRISH SESSIONS is in stores February 13.

The Irish Sessions is nothing if not a labor of love for the Young Dubliners. What was once a project that seemed to take forever to come to fruition ironically came together in a rapid fire recording session. Great thing too as the album retains a remarkably raw live feel. Although better known for their brand of hard hitting original Celtic rock music, reinterpreting the work of other Irish songwriters takes the band to passionate new heights. The songs evoke deep emotions that burst through the organic production. Produced by Tim Boland and mixed by Ken Sluiter, Sessions remains poignant while unearthing the rocking soul found in the traditional and the modern.

Says Dubliners irrepressible lead singer/founder Keith Roberts of the overwhelming demand for an album of Irish covers: ''They asked for it, so we gave it to them! And had a lot of fun along the way.''
